European Platform for Roma Inclusion Preparatory Meeting

20 June 2016

Brussels, 17 June 2016

The annual European Platform for Roma Inclusion will be held in Brussels on 29 and 30 November 2016. With this regards the “Non-discrimination policies and Roma coordination” Unit under the Directorate-General Justice and Consumers of the European Commission organised its second preparatory meeting with relevant stakeholders, including the ERGO Network. The aim of the meeting was to have a participative consultation with Roma civil society and other representatives of the European Commission on the agenda of the upcoming EU Roma Platform.

The discussion about the agenda was based on having a focus on a meaningful and lasting change for Roma at the local level. Using the participatory leadership approach, participants suggested a variety of topics. One of the main topics discussed so far were “Antigypsyism”, “Social Entrepreneurship”, “Member states and EU responsibility” and “Empowerment of local authorities”. The suggested topics will be posted into an online platform for a wider public to contribute, suggest, recommend in the design of the EU Roma Platform’s Agenda in the following months.
