Concerning: Invitation to sign the Manifesto in frame of ‘Roma Week in the European Parliament’

Dear Member of the European Parliament ,

On the occasion of the International Roma Day, we organise a ‘Roma Week in the European Parliament’ co-hosted by different Members of the European Parliament and civil society organisations. On April 5th and 6th a number of events under the umbrella of the ‘Roma Week’ aiming to consolidate the commitment of the European Parliament and other institutions to fight against antigypsyism and to formulate this commitment into action and build on what the Commission has already done.

This year’s International Roma day commemorates the 45th anniversary of the first World Romani World Congress. This first congress was a major event for Roma and it manifested a need for unity and joined forces against marginalisation and for equal rights of the Roma people. However, since the first congress, the position of Roma in Europe further deteriorated. Research shows that Roma still face the highest levels of discrimination and are denied basic human rights due to antigypsyism.

In frame of the ‘Roma Week’ we ask you tosign the manifesto and pledge for the implementation of the resolution of 15 April 2015 on the occasion of International Roma Day – antigypsyism in Europe and EU recognition of the memorial day of the Roma genocide during World War II.

Yours sincerely,

In name of Roma Civil Society Organisation co-hosting the Roma week:

Open Society European Policy Institute (OSEPI), European Roma Grassroots Organizations (ERGO) Network, European Network Against Racism (ENAR), ternYpe International Roma Youth Network, Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG), European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS), Central Council of German Sinti and Roma and European Youth Forum (YFJ)
