ERGO Network is glad to open the call for 7 young Roma activists (18 – 30 years old) for the training Seminar on Minority Issues. The Seminar will gather together 40 young Leaders of Jewish, Armenian and Roma Backgrounds in Tsiblisi – Georgia from October 21st to 26th 2014.

The current raise of xenophobia, hate-speech and hate crimes by far-rights parties is touching the most vulnerable groups of the society, among them the Roma, Jewish and Armenian communities. Moreover this three communities share a common history of segregation, marginalization and were target of different Genocides through the History. Therefore, ERGO Network and its partners have decided to tackle the question of minorities through building a cross-community approach and common relationship with public authorities in this joint seminar for young leaders. This Seminar aims to develop participants’ ability to deal constructively with identity issues in order to play a fuller part in public life.

Seminar participants will be expected to contribute to the production of a “Good Practice Guide” to serve as a reference and inspiration in future projects and initiatives as well as to sharing their experience through various media after the event. A video report will also be produced and broadcast to help disseminate this unique experience.

Profile of Participants

We are looking for Young Roma Leaders (18 – 30 years old) with a real and documented experience in empowerment, mobilization and self-organization at grassroots level in Roma Communities.

Participant Selections

To apply, please submit your CV and letter of interest to with the following subject: “Negotiating Identities”. Application Deadline is August 31st 2014. On 5 September 2014 we will announce the 10 (ten) Young Roma Leaders that will be invited for a personal skype meeting and on 10 September 2014 we will announce the 7 (seven) Young Roma Leaders that will be selected for the training seminar.

Please Note: Seminar funding will be confirmed in August. Travel and accommodation expenses to the seminar should be refunded for selected participants providing that this funding is confirmed.

This seminar is organized in partnership with the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), the European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS),  Hayartun (Tbilissi, Georgia), the European Centre for Minority Issues Caucasus (Tbilissi), each of which will contribute their experience in leadership training to the programme.
